Elk Trail Chalet: About Us

It was a big decision. We wanted a hidden getaway where we could rest and relax with our family and friends. But it had to be reasonably close to home and accessible year round. We wanted a big yard, a place where kids could wander around at will.

We love lakes and river and mountains so there were lots of options. And we searched far and wide until one day we saw it. A true mountain chalet. Perched right on the banks of the Yakima River. One of the nation's best fishing streams, our place on the Yakima sits far downstream from dams that control water flow year round. The consistency of that flow is why the fishery is so dependable.

But our little stretch of the river is pristine too. We sit on a very low bank section and from our deck, or even sitting in the hot tub we look out and over the peaceful serene river. You can see deer and, as the street name implies, the occasional elk. There are even bear and other critters on occasion.

The house itself is newer and nicely outfitted with just about everything you could want in a get away. Comfortable bedrooms, a warm and comfy loft and more bedrooms on the first floor. The kitchen is modern and fully of pots and pens. We have plenty of place settings so you can sit around the table and eat and then later play cards or games.

Our favorite time is as the day winds down, as we've had our fun, and as we sit and watch the meadows turn golden and then drop off into night. Sleep comes easy here which makes waking up a delight in the clean crisp air. Summers are warm, winters are snowy. Spring comes creeping in and the leaves in autumn are golden and red and stunning.

After enjoying our home so much and sharing it with friends we decided it would be wonderful to share it with others as well. So if you need a real getaway an easy drive from the Seattle area or a base from which to go skiing, snow mobiling, hiking or biking you'll find the Elk Trail Chalet just the place.
